Zambia
Zambia is a landlocked country at the crossroads of Central, Southern and Eastern Africa. Its neighbours are the Congo DR to the north, Tanzania to the northeast, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe and Botswana to the south, Namibia to the southwest, and Angola to the west. The capital city of Zambia is Lusaka, located in the south-central part of Zambia.
Wildlife
Zambia's wildlife protected areas cover about 30% of the total land area. Majority of this remains unexploited and is 100% natural to the tee. Zambia is also home of the mighty Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World heritage site which is also one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The only Natural Wonder of the World located in Africa.
Zambia is home to a great diversity of habitats. All these naturally support an abundance of creatures, of all sizes. These include the lion, leopard and elephant. Zambia boasts five huge lakes and 17 waterfalls. The Luangwa Valley alone is home to over 100 species of mammal and more than 400 species of birds. The banks of the Luangwa River and the fertile Zambezi and Kafue floodplains with their amazing density host these species.
Climate
The country enjoys a tropical climate - offering a pleasant sunshine all year round.
There are three distinct seasons.
December to April: warm and wet.
May to August: cool and dry.
September to November: hot and dry.
The average temperatures in summer range from 25 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius and in winter from 6 degrees Celsius to 24 degrees Celsius.
The extreme heat is usually experienced in the month of October.
Currency
The Kwacha (ZMW) is the local currency. The paper notes are in denominations of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100.
Currency Regulations
There is no limit to the importation of foreign currency, provided it is declared on arrival through a currency declaration form.
